The suggester says; ""Genocide IV" by sothiss76 is so shocking in its tragedy. All these shoes from dead people... There is a real story behind this picture and it just makes you want to cry. The Genocide must not be forgotten, so it won't be repeated in our history again..."

Description

Shoes that belonged to people brought to Auschwitz for extermination.
Two weeks ago I visited Auschwitz concentration camp. It was a dreadful and powerful experience. Makes you think about the human condition.
Auschwitz was a network of concentration and extermination camps built and operated in Polish areas annexed by Nazi Germany during the Second World War. It was the largest of the Nazi concentration camps, consisting of Auschwitz I (the Stammlager or the base camp); Auschwitz II - Birkenau (the Vernichtungslager or extermination camp); Auschwitz III - Monowitz (a labour camp); and 45 satellite camps.

The exact number of victims at Auschwitz is impossible to fix with certainty. Since the Nazis destroyed a number of records, immediate efforts to count the dead depended on the testimony of witnesses and the defendants on trial at Nuremberg. After a lot of studies the official death toll is 1.1 million people.
